Whatโs Your Trick For Enjoying Holiday Treats And Staying On Track? ๐
I agree with both of you, Lou and Maria. I too have been told by doctors that diet has no bearing on AIHA but my nephew, the doctor, tells me they get about a week of nutrition in medical school and they never really applied what they learned to any medical conditions. His advise to me was that I should keep eating/doing what makes me feel the best. I have found more protein in my diet is more satisfying and I also lean more toward soup and stews! I call my diet "quasi-keto"! I'm not in a cold climate by any stretch of the imagination but the desert can be cruel for some when Winter finally arrives! Personally Fall and Winter are my favorite seasons and I feel best during that time. I hate the way synthetic cures (medication) makes me feel and because keeping inflammation at bay is crucial, I have cut out sugar and any foods (I perceive) add to inflammation, I drink a lot of fluids and love lemon/lime/cucumber in my water (not necessarily together, lol). I think every individual is unique though, and finding what works best for you is the key to dealing with this. I've taken everyone's ideas (that I liked) and tried incorporating them into my routine, some worked, some did not. Maria, I love fruit cake and love your idea of making one w/o sugar. With the Holidays coming that cake sounds like a winner! BUT I WILL be having at least one Reeses Peanut Butter Cup for Halloween; hey, I'm only human!
I found that one magnesium bisglycinate pill per day helped raise the RBC / HG levels for me. But then it makes your periods heavier and u lose more blood this way. But still better then before. I will try to stop magnesium one week before my period so much I have normal periods. It dont know how it works but it works for me.
Tbh for holidays I like to buy fancier treats like raspberry and mango, payayas or things that are super healthy but expensive to have it daily. I would like to have a mix of fancier nuts mix like pecans, Brazilian nuts and pistachios etc. I was never into candy and junk food to begin with. I was into fitness and healthy eating before AIHA and I still am even tho I slowed down my exercise habits since I discovered that intense effort makes things worse for me. Personally, I miss a HIIT session or cardio but I am not able to do that anymore. Now I only do pilates and stretching things.
I just eat things in moderation and try to keep my weight down. I have added kale to give my body natural iron. I enjoy sweet treats and just made an oat, fruit and nut cake with no added sugar - the fruit was sweet enough for me
Well, I don't think there's any hard scientific evidence to say that diet is linked to AIHA so I wouldn't want to give the wrong impression that eating healthy or cutting out sugar is a cure and may not even help most people idk. My doctors have all stressed that diet doesn't slow down the destruction of red cells or cure it. But I personally found keto diet gives me a bit more energy and reduces inflammation symptoms a TINY bit in between transfusions so I do stick to it and my nutritionist said as long as you stay hydrated it doesn't do any harm. There are lots of treats and swaps for holiday eating on sites like pinterest :) But also I find that stews and soups I my cold weather go to rather than sweet treats anyway - vegan cheese on top of everything! XD
