My Hb Went Down Today At Blood Work From 9.9 To 9.5 And I Am Just Worried. Is This Concerning?
You need your hematologist or experienced Doctor to evaluate. I assume you are talking his Hemoglobin? The doc looks at the whole picture in the CBC, CMC, etc and also the meds he is taking.... Like is he on prednisone or other meds that may impact the numbers. Don't worry about small changes in one number.... keep track of the trends in your blood work. Put the info in Excel or on graph paper with the upper and lower limits there as well. Good luck!
I have had bloodwork done from two different doctors at the same appointment. Naturally some requested tests from each doctor were the same. The results from those same tests were different numbers! That would seem impossible since all the blood was drawn at the same visit but my doctors both said that it was normal! So 9.9 to 9.5 is not necessarily a difference worry about; wait to hear what your doctor says. Staying calm about fluctuations is hard but stress is bad for us with AIHA. Easy for me to say, I know, but I had to learn that lesson the hard way!
I believe it's much more a individual standard level than just a number. I just recently got out of hospital (check out my story). Started feeling symptoms bout 3-4 days prior to er visit. Had a job interview I didn't want to miss - by that time my roommate said I was yellow (I cannot seem to tell myself)..so packed my bag, went to interview, then direct to ER. Admitted w Hb 4.5 - discharged 8 days later w/ Hb 6.7. 2 bags blood, iv steriods, ritux, biopsy on lymph node (waiting for results). They sent me home w some steriods and cyclo chemo pill(which ins didn't pay for) so didn't get those pills yet. Got a new PCP cause I needed one & ins requires a referral to see a specialist. Hemo doc appt Monday morning. Hope so as I'm feeling it again. They say that even tho my levels are way too low, my body's used to it so.... I say all in gauging your symptoms and, for me, comes down to how I feel, and if I'm yellow for trip to er.
