A myAIHAteam Member asked a question đź’

My Mom has full blown rheumatoid arthritis, Sjogren's, and other health issues including anemia. She was already on Warfarin blood thinners due to A-Fib. She's been told that the R.A. has moved into systemic autoimmune. There is one bone marrow biopsy tray system which is supposed to be significantly better than all the others, but how do we get our physicians to stock it and use it? I will look up the name and link again and send it here:

On-Control powered biopsy.
What does the biopsy really change though? If there is nothing left for the patient to take or try or do, what's the use?
I hope you see some real benefit and that you can get the best.
Precious soft hugs and blessings to you.

Well hon, I am 75 and am going to have my third biopsy soon. It is really up to your mon to decide. It is all hard. Love to you both.

JoAnne,
Mom is very thin and has had numerous separate rounds of Prednisone, and I am quiet concerned about what level of extra pain she could tolerate on top of what she already has. I know that the bone marrow biopsy is very painful. She also may struggle with healing. Plus her mind gets affected by all the pain. She is 87 years old. What would you do if this was your mamma?

As best I understand if you need a definitive diagnosis…as most of us do I order to have an appropriate treatment, then a bone biopsy in pretty much necessary.
One is not put under sedation for this procedure…a bit of local freezing….unpleasant, but not life threatening.
